For example, my kid has a passion for musicals. I don't share her passion, but damn if I don't know every note to Cats backwards and forwards by now. (A fate worse than death I once would have said but, considering the alternative of prefabricated merch-ready pop ingenues, I'm ok with it.)

As for being and remaining involved as a parent, it's a balancing act, ain't it? Music is one of those things that requires regular doses of "introspective" time to practice and compose, to say nothing of the time demands of rehearsals, gigs, and more.

When my kid was born, I was kicking around the idea of starting an online zine/journal/blog about being a "creative parent" and finding ways to make it all work (of course, being busy with a newborn is generally not such a good time to launch such a project). Maybe someday.Trier Musichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08924385060827125114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8326339.post-89811427097987025612009-12-09T13:55:08.781-08:002009-12-09T13:55:08.781-08:00First: That really is one cute kid. You guys do good work. :)

Next:
"...in this era of digital communication and the technologies of DIY music production... there is now a noticeable contingent of dude musicians who, if the internets are to be believed, are downright wrapped up in raising their own offspring..."

I know that this may sound like I'm placing too much onto this, but I just realized: you may be saving the arts!

I'll explain: I fear for the arts in general. I fear that, in the world of "cut what's not absolutely necessary", art will go the way of the Dodo. But if art were taught to upcoming generations not in school (because of such budget cuts etc) but at home by artist parents? Well - I'll just say that your post gives me a little hope for the future.

Thank you sir. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8326339.post-198069167451226832009-12-09T10:46:24.892-08:002009-12-09T10:46:24.892-08:00Nice, Andrew.
